The CS-ECIS modules
The CS-ECIS is equipped with a tremendous amount of
functionality. To be able to offer this properly to the health care sector, the
functionalities have been subdivided. The different ChipSoft modules have been
grouped together for the sake of clarity:
- Outpatient and clinical care logistics and care registration
- Electronic Patient Record
- Financial settlement and management information.
Outpatient and clinical care logistics and care registration
ChipSoft’s underlying principle is that computerization should provide
optimum support to the care providers’ workflow and therefore the entire patient
treatment process. Because the ChipSoft modules can be integrated, there is no
longer a need for a strict division between outpatient care and clinical care.
An example of how this makes things easier is a situation in which an outpatient
can be placed on the waiting list for admission and, if necessary, an operation
from the outpatients’ diary. Another example is that the care provider in A&E
can see where there is a bed available for an emergency admission, after which
the relevant data can be entered immediately.
The outpatient and clinical registration can be expanded with modules that
support the Electronic Patient Record. The same rule
applies here; these modules can be integrated with existing modules.
ChipSoft has the following modules for outpatient and clinical care logistics
and care registration:
- CS-Patient
CS-Patient forms the basis for the CS-ECIS. The registration and recording of
patient data takes place in CS-Patient, such as name, address, but also
insurance data, e-mail and freely definable data.
- CS-Schedule
CS-Schedule supports the outpatient departments’ logistics. The simple and quick
planning of single appointments or combination appointments based on a
treatment protocol is one of the standard features. The processing of
referrals and supply of LAZR data is performed within CS-Schedule.
- CS-Admission
CS-Admission are used for admission registration and
planning. CS-Admission consists of the following features: registration of
patient data, waiting list management, admission planning,
admission/discharge registration, planning and occupancy reports.
CS-Department is used for registration in the department. This module works
closely with CS-Admission and offers decentralized admission
functionalities, such as transfers, bed exchanges and discharge from the
department. In addition, CS-Department offers support to the administration
and registration tasks in nursing. If the OR module is also used, admissions
and OR can share a waiting list. In addition, the admission and operating
room planning can be integrated, which means that the operation and
admission period can be planned at the same time.
- CS-OR
CS-OR is the operating room planning, registration and management system. At
the present time, this module is the most used management information and
planning system for operation departments in the Netherlands. CS-OR supports
waiting list management, planning, preoperative, real time and postoperative
input of data, operation reports and stock control.
- CS-Preop
CS-Preop supports the different statuses and workflows for preoperative
screening. The screening list can be filled in and displayed digitally in
the OR. The screening history for each patient is saved and is always
viewable. The screening status can function as a basis for OR planning in
CS-OR.
- PDMS
PDMS is the patient data management system that supports the
anesthesia care providers and the electronic anesthesia reporting, from
preparation to recovery. Anesthesia Record can be linked to monitors, drip
pumps, etc.
- CS-Sterile
CS-Sterile supports the central sterilization department processes. CS-Sterile
can be linked to CS-OR, so that from the OR planning the nets and articles
can be requested from the central sterilization department.
- CS-ER
CS-ER offers support to the business processes in the Accident and Emergency
department. The patient routing related to accident and emergency is
presented in a clear manner, including chronological data. In addition,
different kinds of digital registrations can take place, such as case
history, child abuse, trauma and injury registration.
- CS-X-ray
CS-X-ray offers complete support to the radiology department’s processes.
Integration with a PACS system is also possible through integrated work
lists. If the ChipSoft appointment system is operational in the hospital,
the radiography appointments in the hospital can be combined with other
appointments.
- CS-Archive
CS-Archive is the archive and loan system for paper records. The module always
provides current information regarding a record: whether it has been
requested, loaned or passed on. Thanks to the transparency of the methods
and functions that are performed automatically by the system, CS-Archive has
without a doubt added value for central and decentralized medical archives.
Above all, CS-Archive can be integrated with the module CS-Multimedia,
through which medical records can be easily digitalized and added to the
digital patient record. This provides a total solution for both archiving
paper records and the transition to a part or total digital record.
Electronic Patient Record
In ChipSoft’s vision, the EPR does not exist. An EPR is
not an application that can be bought; an EPR is ‘created’ when data related to
a patient are collected from different systems. An EPR is more than just a
‘diorama’. Being able to consult data that have been recorded in different
systems is a first step. To end up with a comprehensive patient record, data
will also have to be recorded by the care provider. The modules below are aimed
at the presentation and recording of record information.
- CS-Info
CS-Info facilitates the consultation of all information from the CS-ECIS, but
also from other supplier’s subsystems, per patient or per patient group. In
addition, through CS-Info, patient notes for any record (for each user, for
each research group or public) can be updated.
- CS-Digital File Record
CS-CS-Digital File Record is a module that facilitates the structural
recording of all patient treatment matters, from admission history to the
report. Recording data takes places through a predefined question and answer
routine. Different actions can be started from CS-CS-Digital File Record , such as making laboratory requests, booking appointments and
prescribing medication. As a result, the care provider receives optimum
support during the treatment process.
- CS-Medication
CS-Medication is ChipSoft’s Electronic Prescription System (EPS).
CS-Medication has been designed in such a way that a patient’s complete
medication profile can be compiled. Outpatient and clinical prescriptions
can be generated with CS-Medication. Admission and discharge medication
profiles are also completely supported.
- CS-Document
CS-Document is deployed as a correspondence and reporting system. All the
information recorded in the CS-ECIS can, if necessary, be automatically
included in a report or letter. CS-Document employs templates in which the
layout of the letter or report has already been determined, supplemented
with data from the CS-ECIS. In addition, texts that are used frequently can
be added as text blocks.
- CS-Order management
CS-Order management is ChipSoft’s order management system. Orders can be generated in
CS-ECIS using CS-Order management, or directly in the subsystem concerned (such as a
lab system). In addition, orders can be authorized, accepted and assigned,
and a feedback report can be automatically sent to the person making the
request.
- CS-MultiMedia
CS-Multimedia ensures a link between the scanned documents and the patient
record information in the CS-ECIS. This could concern the referral from a
general practitioner and digital images, such as a dermatologist's
photographs.
Financial settlement and management information
- CS-Invoice
CS-Invoice is ChipSoft’s invoice system. Due to the complexity of invoicing in
Dutch health care, it is important that the user’s work process is optimally
supported. A great advantage of the invoicing system is the computerization
of processes that are very time-consuming if performed manually. In
CS-Invoice, all declarable procedures in the care process are invoiced and
the procedures are supplied to the financial system. If completed with
CS-Ambulant for decentralized procedure registration, the entire course –
from procedure input to invoice – is covered.
- CS-Overview Generator
CS-Overview Generator is the statistics module that contains extensive
functionality for generating overviews. Users themselves can make the
required overviews that are needed for performing their tasks. The overviews
can be displayed on screen or printed out. The lay-out is provided in the
clear Report Builder functionality, which forms an integrated part of the
CS-ECIS.
- CS-Data Warehouse
CS-Data Warehouse is ChipSoft’s module for collating and categorizing the data
originating from the ChipSoft operational modules or third party systems.
After storage and processing, these data can be displayed in various forms
using the presentation software of the institution’s choice, such as
Microsoft Excel or Cognos.
