Karin Zwager is a paediatrician and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the Saxenburgh Group. Having worked with CS-EZIS.Net for years, she has used HiX for slightly under a year now. In the cheerful, newly equipped location of the children's polyclinic in Hardenberg, Karin tells us what working with HiX means to her.

“As a full-time paediatrician with the Saxenburgh Group I see approximately ten patients per shift. In addition, I make some five telephone calls. This takes up a lot of my time and I want to spend as little time as possible on administration. That's why HiX is so convenient; I can record lots of details in just a few steps."

Faster recording

"During a consultation I work with shortcodes. Setting up the shortcodes takes some effort, but ultimately they save a lot of time. I now type three letters to enter my entire report. For instance, I have set up the most common diagnoses as shortcode. This works like a charm. The letters are done by the time the patient touches the door handle. With the 'favourites' that you can create yourself, you can also record and search faster. This way I can always call up the laboratory results, X-rays, medication and the last clinic visit on my screen with one single click."

Working effectively

"I also hear many positive comments from colleagues. Doctors, who have worked with other systems, really appreciate being able to work from one screen. No one wants to start the day opening fifteen applications or screens before you can start working effectively."

Accessible anywhere

“HiX is uncluttered, well laid out and can be accessed anywhere. Even at home. When I am on emergency call-out duty and a medical practitioner contacts me at home, I can access the patient dossier immediately. It is very convenient to have the past medical history, medication and allergies on my screen at one glance. Based on this, I can send an immediate order to a nurse for an X-ray, for instance.

Ideal order system

“The order system within HiX is ideal. When ordering laboratory tests, X-rays or other items from colleagues or secretaries, you don't have to disturb them in their workflow. The orders are automatically displayed on their worklist, whereupon they can choose the best moment to pick up the order. Or vice versa: if I have to draw up an additional letter or make some arrangements for a patient, they can send me an order which will appear on my worklist. Patients can also be placed on a MDO list which forms the basis to work from."

Fully informed

"As all specialisms work together in an integrated dossier, I can continue to monitor patients I have referred to other specialists. I can see everything that is done to my patient and I am fully informed by the time the patient returns to me. This is a very pleasant way to work."

Recommendation

"People who feel inept and consider themselves digitally illiterate, reckon that HiX is very intuitive. Some areas can be improved upon and together with ChipSoft we will consider possible modifications. All in all, I can recommend HiX to all paediatricians. You soon learn how to work with it, it gives you action reminders and ensures that your records are up to date in no time at all.  It really offers many levels of support."
